Friday July the 11th saw The Verve headline the main stage with an epic performance at T in the Park 2008.
Formed in Wigan, Greater Manchester in 1989 the Verve consist of vocalist Richard Ashcroft, guitarist Nick McCabe, bassist Simon Jones, and drummer Peter Salisbury.
A band quite at home with controversy they have endured a number of name and lineup changes, breakups, health problems, drug abuse and a variety of lawsuits along the way. The Verve's biggest breakthrough came with the album Urban Hymns and its anthemic single "Bitter Sweet Symphony", which became a worldwide hit.
Despite much infighting and break-ups The Verve became one of the most influential British alternative rock acts of the decade, falling apart and breaking up for a second time in 1999.
The Verve reunited once again in June 2007 and have gone on to perform at all the major festivals to great acclaim and the delight of fans old and new during 2008. One of our top bands who will doubtless undergo more controversy in the coming years, but a band who have already provided a tremendous musical legacy.
